There are two basic types of juicers: centrifugal and masticating, but later on you will see different variations of these machines and how they work.

Centrifugal Juicer

Centrifugal juicers are the popular ones you often see in a department store. They are affordable, and fast and easy to use. As the name suggests, it works under the principle of centrifugal force – just like a washing machine on a spin.

  • Speed – Centrifugal juicers have higher revolutions per minute or RPM – it can go as high as 10,000 RPM. Hence, it can make juice faster than a masticating one.
  • Easy to clean – this type of juicer is easy to assemble and disassemble so you won’t have problems cleaning it. Some brands are even dishwasher safe.

CONS

  • Noise – If you think blenders are loud, centrifugal juicers can be so much louder. Using it in the morning can wake a baby, roommate, partner, or spouse who’s sleeping soundly.
  • Poor yield – Centrifugal juicer is not as efficient as a masticating juicer when it comes to yielding juice. You might have to run the fiber 2-3 more times to extract the rest of the saps.

  • Preparation – The feeding tube of a masticating juicer (especially the horizontal type) is small and short. You may have to chop the produce into smaller pieces before you feed it into the machine.
  • Speed – You might not like masticating juicers if you are always in a hurry because it has a very low RPM and can take time to yield enough juice. My suggestion is to do it the night before, store the juice in an air-tight container, and refrigerate overnight. It will be ready in the morning whenever you want to take a sip – as fresh and as new.

Omega is one of the leading brands of juicers and for me, their J8006 is their top notch quality yet so far. What I love most about it is that with its 80 RPM, it doesn’t foam or oxidize. Although, I have to admit that I am a bit disappointed that it can only run at 110V. Some countries that are using 220V will have to use a voltage regulator or just choose other brands.

Both have great features and amazing miscellaneous functions. SKG is a bit expensive but you are getting more functions than just a regular juicer, so I think it is worth your money.
