Choosing The Best Springform Pan
Not all springform pans are created equal, and that’s why this article exists! I know how frustrating it can be to try out a new kitchen appliance only for it not to work as advertised.
That is why I’ve put together this list of the top 5 springform pans along with a short guide on what to look for when choosing this type of pan. Use the following tips to make sure you get a pan that will work for you!
What Do People Use Springform Pans For?
Before we get started, let’s run through what most people use springform pans for. Hopefully, this gives you some ideas about how to use yours!
- For cheesecake, or any cake that can’t be flipped upside down: the sides can be removed with a latch to avoid flipping the cake
- For building icebox cakes that need to firm in the fridge & still be removed easily
- For extra-deep foods such as pot pies and quiches
There are many creative ways to use a springform pan in the kitchen, but these are just some of the most common. Now, let’s get into how to choose your new springform pan!
Look For Low Leakage
The most important thing to check when buying springform pans is how much they leak. Leakage is a big problem with low-quality springform pans, so you will want to ensure your pan does not have this problem.
There is no 100% leakproof springform pan due to the nature of these pans, but there are pans that leak far less than others.
Low leakage is important for two main reasons:
- No cake batter should leak out into your oven or fridge
- No water should leak into the pan if you do a water bath
Choosing a quality pan will ensure that your cake doesn’t end up on the bottom of your oven and also that your cake won’t end up soggy if you do a water bath to loosen it up.
Easy To Latch & Unlatch
Another key thing to check about your new springform pan before purchasing is how well the latch mechanism works. You want the latch to be well-built so that you don’t struggle with it every single time that you use the pan.
The latch should work smoothly, and it should be made of a material that will not rust easily, as rust can cause it to stick. Additionally, check how the pan fits into the bottom part of the pan. It should be easy to fit the pieces of your springform pan together.
The bottom of all springform pans needs to be very sturdy. They should not dent, warp, or change at all while using them. In many cases, you will use the bottom pan to serve the cake off of, so you need to be able to rely on this part of the pan.

Pan Thickness & Color
Check what color pan you are looking at and consider the thickness of the pan.You want a pan that is heavy enough to back things gently and evenly, and you don’t want the pan to be too thin. If the pan is very thin, the edges may get burnt or crispy before the rest of the cake.
For this reason, I suggest choosing a light-colored pan. These pans do not absorb as much heat as dark-colored pans. Dark-colored pans absorb so much heat that they can actually cook cakes too quickly, so you should avoid this while choosing a springform pan.
Decide If You Want Nonstick Or Not
While some people say that you should definitely get a nonstick pan if you are buying a springform pan, I’ve found that this isn’t always the case.
Sure, you want the pan to release the cake effortlessly, but nonstick pans are also easy to scratch and are not dishwasher safe. This can make cleanup frustrating, and you may need to replace the more quickly than regular pans because the nonstick coating wears off over time.
If you do choose a nonstick pan, the cakes pop out easily and can be wiped clean with a sponge very easily. It’s completely up to you if you choose to get a regular or nonstick pan. Just be sure that you are aware of the pros and cons of each type of pan before you choose one over the other.
Diameter
There is no “right” or “wrong” diameter to buy when looking at springform pans. The size you need will depend completely on what you plan to make in the pan.
If you aren’t sure what size pan you need, I recommend buying a 9 inch diameter springform pan, as most recipes are made for this size.

2. Hiware 7 Inch Non-stick Springform Pan
The next pan to be reviewed is the Hiware 7 Inch Non-stick Springform Pan. This pan is another good option that will do a great job of letting you cook cakes without anything sticking to the pan.
The thing I like the most about this 7-inch pan from Hiware is how easy it is to release the springform when you are done cooking. Even if you use a pressure cooker, you’ll see that it’s easy to release the latch when you’re ready to take your cake out of the pan.
