Where Is Bora Bora And What Is It Like?
To get an overview of the best times to visit Bora Bora and what the islands are like, check out this short video:
As you can see, Bora Bora is located in the Polynesian Islands and is a popular destination regardless of the time of year. While the video says that high season is only from June to September, I think it’s a bit longer from May to October!
What Is The Year-Round Weather Like In Bora Bora?
The year-round average temperature in Bora Bora ranges from 70°F to 90°F. Yes, it is warm and beautiful all year round! In terms of temperature, it doesn’t change much. While it does verge on the lower side of this range from July to September, you won’t get many days outside of this range, making Bora Bora a good year-round destination.
In Bora Bora, rainfall is a bigger concern than temperature when considering your trip dates.
From May to October, the average rainfall is less than 4 inches. Rainfall is lowest during August and September.
In November, rainfall gradually increases to around 6 inches before it reaches the yearly high of around 12 inches per month in December and January. February gets an average of 9 inches of rainfall. Like November, March and April get around 6 inches of rainfall.
Depending on whether or not you are willing to deal with rain, you will want to avoid December and January when consistent rainfall is most likely.
When Is High Season In Bora Bora?
High season in Bora Bora stretches from May to October, and this is when the most tourists visit the island. Rain showers are very isolated during this time, making the weather ideal for vacationers who don’t want to risk being stuck inside because of rainy weather.
During high season, popular spots in Bora Bora can be overwhelmingly crowded, and prices for hotels, flights, and activities can become very expensive. While you can still find good deals by booking in advance, you should consider this if you plan to book travel between May and October.
When Is Low Season In Bora Bora?
Low season in Bora Bora stretches from late November to early April. During this time, rainy conditions become more and more common, but the weather stays relatively warm.
Unfortunately, this combination of conditions can lead to annoying mosquitoes, too much rainy weather, and otherwise gloomy conditions when compared with the conditions you’ll find in high season. This is why fewer tourists visit during this time.
Still, that makes it a great season to visit if you’re willing to brave these conditions. Bora Bora is actually popular year round, and if you’re willing to come in low season, you’ll find much better deals and save a lot of money.
How Can I Get A Deal On My Trip To Bora Bora?
Unfortunately for tourists like us, Bora Bora is a notoriously popular vacation spot. No matter what time of year it is, it seems that tourists are flocking to Bora Bora. This means that it can be hard to find great deals on accommodations, regardless of the season.
If you want to find a really cheap deal, your best bet is to visit Bora Bora during December, January, February, or March. During these months, the weather is fairly unpredictable, so hotels are more likely to offer deals on your trip. If you book in advance, you’ll get an even better deal!
You can also find good deals in April, but because April is becoming a more popular month to travel, the end of March might be a better time to visit.
What Are A Few Must-Dos In Bora Bora?
In addition to planning when to go to Bora Bora, you also need to start planning what to do once you get there! The number one thing you need to do while on vacation is relax, but it’s not a bad idea to have a list of ideas of things to do.
Here are some of the most popular things to do while visiting Bora Bora:
- Visit Bora Bora Lagoonarium and Coral Gardens
- Climb Mount Otemanu
- Visit Matira Beach
- Go on a 4x4 Excursion
- Check out Vaitape
- Go on a boat tour
- Go scuba diving
These are just a few things you can do. Ask your hotel about what water and outdoor activities (as well as spa features) they have available before heading on your trip.
Simply Put: When Is the Best Time To Go To Bora Bora?
If you want an easy answer, the best months to visit Bora Bora are November and April ! These two months hit the perfect shoulder season time. The weather is still good, but the tourism season isn’t in full bloom.
